Sukkot
AKA Tabernacles
3 Feasts
As with Passover, the Feast of Tabernacles also consists of 3 feasts, The Feast
of Trumpets, Yom Kippur and Feast of Tabernacles. Leviticus 23: 23- 44.
These feasts could rightly be called ‘mysterious’ feasts. For while the early
Church recognized Passover and Pentecost as prophetically complete, the final
feasts of the year are still to be fulfilled.
Paul states in Colossians 2 that the feasts are a shadow, and the Messiah is the
substance. No wonder then, that we eagerly look forward to the fulfillment of
these final feasts.
We, at Heart For Israel NZ, look forward to a celebration of these
Feasts of the Lord. – All of them are Holy convocations or meetings.
What are these mysteries? We'll look at this….
1. Feast of Trumpets. Yom Ha Teruah. The day of the blowing of the
shofar. All the Bible tells us to do is to sound the shofar, and make it a
holiday of rest and memorial. Why? And why do many of the Bibles
written after the coming of the Messiah refer to it as a time of rest,
memorial & jubilation?
2. The Feast of Trumpets is the only Feast of the 7 that we cannot know the
‘Hour or Day’ when it comes. Sure, for convenience you will find it on
the Jewish calendar but it is there as 2 days for that very reason! Where
else in the New Testament do we find that description?
3. It is a tradition for women to wear white garments on Yom Kippur
( as a sign of mourning) and white at their weddings as a sign of purity.
Who is the Lord coming back for, to gather together, to be with Him?
4. Yom Kippur is the only fast day for the Jewish people. The holiest day of
the year when they make sure they are worthy to have their names
written in The Book of Life. No wonder then that many Messianic writers
refer to the scripture “and they shall look upon Him whom they have
pierced”.
5. As with all the Feasts, Sukkot also has a harvest component. Is this the
final harvest? The catching away of the bride by the bridegroom?
There is also much teaching on Rosh Hashanah. Traditionally it is treated as
the New Year by the Jewish people and is the other title given to the Feast of
Trumpets. While Messianic Jews recognize the role of Yom Teruah with the
coming of the Messiah, the Jewish people as a whole prepare over a 10 day period
(The Days of Awe ) to be ready to have their names written in The Book of Life
for a further year at Yom Kippur.
So much more to these wonderful Feasts of the Lord! As much as we would
like to expand more on these Feasts, there is far too much to share here!
Learn more! Come to a celebration!
How blessed we are in these days to once again have these feasts of the early
church revealed to us. Each year around Sept/October, Heart For Israel NZ
invites all people to celebrate with us. These are Holy Convocations, times to
meet with our God.
Don’t miss out!
Or
Can I celebrate at home?
Yes of course, but it is more encouraging to be with others. However, google
‘Feast of Tabernacles’ and build your own Sukkah. Great fun for the children
and opportunities to share with friends and family.
